#8 Spirituality -How to change your mind
FIRST DRAFT
I have stated that one's mind is under one's absolute control.
The mind, your mind is under your control. You made it - it's yours.
If you think you didn't make your mind, or someone or something (advertising?) is controlling your mind, or you don't feel in control of your mind or worse 'your mind is dangerous' -God help you.
If so, change your beliefs and concepts you hold about your mind- your expectancy of your mind's function ; and rather rapidly!
You can do it.
And I considered that some ideas offered by well meaning and ignorant friends and educators can offer what Dr Bandler [The creator of NLP-Neuro Linguistic Programing], and others call a 'hypnotic suggestion'.
"Hypnotic Suggestions"
I would define a hypnotic suggestion as something offered to you ,that you adopt as true without really considering it.
Often it's in the middle of a load of stuff that makes sense and one has become accustomed to agreeing with the author.
eg "You have 2 weeks to live" (!)
or "With meditation we are trying to tame the incessant chatter of the mind" (eeek)
or "We have to find when an event occurred in our minds to truly clean it up" (omg)
Hypnotic Suggestions.
Anyone (or anything) that tries to tell you what you are, or how you think ,or what you cannot do, should be viewed at least with the greatest possible suspicion or if like Dr Bandler, you are a martial arts expert, be 'assisted' to the nearest hospital.
And watch out for the predictions of some medical doctors -you could make yourself seriously ill.
In fact any suggestion made to you that doesn't offer complete mental and physical health is a lie.
Neither will I tolerate the suggestion of increasing infirmity with old age !
Nope -that's my business.
But you don't have to believe all of that!!!
Just hold that you are in control of your mind.
What is the mind?
Kindly consider what are your expectations of your mind?
I really don't want to tell you what your mind is!
If I say it's full of this or that there is my concern that I am creating an expectation of your mind for you that you may adopt.
A hypnotic suggestion per the above.
Watch out for those -you've been warned twice!
If it doesn't resonate with you -flush it.
So your mind is yours -why look around and ask what it is?
It's like your car:
"-ohhh you got the X19. They are a complete nightmare!!!!"
...What do you want me to say?...lol
..."You think short thoughts"...hehehe ...I AM KIDDING
SO ANYTHING I SAY HERE - IF IT DOESN'T RESONATE WITH YOU - JUST IGNORE IT.
So here is your mind -it seems to offer thoughts.
Does your mind have a "mind of it's own" - just asking?
Do you feel in control of it?
Maybe some do - maybe some don't.
It's worth repeating
You are in absolute control of your mind.
I have discussed spirituality at length in these postings.
One is a spiritual being.
One is part of oneness the whole the Everything,The Infinite Awareness,The Universal Mind,The Collective Subconscious Mind... God...whatever.
Spirit is the law -and that's the only law there is.
But you don't have to believe all that !!!!!
Just believe that you are in control of your mind.
But you may well have experience and evidence to the contrary,
and you may have not.
Unwanted thoughts such as hatred or guilt or self blame? maybe? just asking?
I can assure you everything in your mind is there because you put it in there!
From here we have to look at Expectation and Beliefs.
Are you a 'jealous person' trying not to be jealous?
Do you feel 'guilt' because your friends,your religion or society think you should?
Try this experiment.
...Everything you think -hold up as only a creation and not fixed or written in stone.
The idea is that Everything you think is mutable,malleable changeable.
"I get jealous and I don't like it" . What is mental construct is holding this in place? The person should investigate for themselves but it could be:
"I cannot change my jealousy" ooops!
So what beliefs about your mind do you have?
Watch out for those "special" self help defeating constructs such as:
"Ohh the mysteries of the mind -it's unfathomable"
"I have a bad memory -how can I improve my mind?"
This is all total bs.
It's your mind -you made it- you control it ..and as I said despite 'evidence' to the contrary
If you don't believe that - God help you.
"Evidence" that we don't control our minds.
We do.
But experiential evidence may suggest we don't.
But this experience is based on what?
It is based on the beliefs , concepts and ideas we have.
Consider one's experience - it's yesterdays news!
Everything you think is under your control
Am i getting boring yet?
We hold onto a belief and it manifests as a stream of thought when faced with realities associated with it.
Consider this example
"What my father said to me, really hurt me"
Well if you create THAT don't be surprised when you burst into tears every time his name is mentioned.
Don't be astonished that you plummet into a depth of "unwanted" emotions and perhaps even have a blighted unhappy life because of it ---ouch!!!
Bursting into tears doesn't prove your mind is controlling you or is out of control -
it's just the manifestation of the "hurt by father" concept you have.
Experience and evidence of what happened points to a belief system only - an expectation.
It doesn't some how tell us the way things unchangeably are.
You have formed a belief ,a concept that has created the experience in the first place.
Bursting into tears time and time again doesn't prove your father hurt you - it just is a manifestation of your belief.
What your father said to you didn't hurt you.
You hurt yourself with "My father hurt me"
Maybe you felt that type of comment should hurt you -whatever.
The other person has no power over you -we just take these things on board
and some are hypnotic suggestions as I have said.
You are in complete control of your mind (yawn)
Low self esteem,lack of confidence,feelings of low self worth.
Whose idea is that?
Your friends' or some guy at a bus stop? Or a psychiatrist maybe -some highly educated expert, John's mother, Mr Bullrush at the Deli, your old and very clever flatmate at College?
Nope....incorrect....false....wrong.....go to the bottom of the class!!!!
It's your idea !!!
"But it's trueeeee" you wimper "I get sooo nervous and sweaty and I feel I am not worth anything"
Congratulations - you created a lack of confidence.
If I must say it -there are people dumber than you,less attractive than you, and that smell of biscuits -who think they are God's Ultimate Gift To Humanity.
Seriously -maybe you stutter,maybe you lisp, maybe you got no front teeth,maybe you got a scarred or somehow 'different' face or body.
Your belief is maybe:
"I have this -I am ashamed to go out -God has punished me - This is a 'message' that I should stay quiet - I am not worthy to be heard -people will stare at me -people will laugh at me" ?? I don't know
What do you believe about it?
If you are unusual people will notice - is that bringing up another belief about yourself?
"I don't want to be noticed"?
Change it to "I DO want to be noticed"!!!
"I don't want to be noticed because I got no self confidence"...go to the bottom of the class.
There were two women with a port-wine stain (?) on their faces -the big red patch thingie. One woman was totally screwed up by it and the other wouldn't have changed it for the whole world -it defined her as different and special and was actually great for picking up men!!!!! (The first one discovered some super new make-up and the second got married with children -so both had a happy ending).
They held different beliefs about it - and look at their different lives.
PATIENT Doctor, Doctor. It hurts when I do this!
DOCTOR Stop doing that!
You will find that the idea you have about yourself and your whole history of experience that makes it seem true hangs completely and only on a belief. And it is a self generated belief that you took on board from somewhere.
Change your belief about yourself -it takes about a minute. Just look at all of it and create something much more groovy.
I did this myself for years "I have no self confidence" ...eventually the penny dropped.
Fear of Spiders, fear of flying, claustrophobia,agoraphobia.
People can create things that are bigger than themselves.
They can create things that are senior to themselves.
This sounds wrong -but that's what happens.
Anything you decide has power over you, does have power over you!!!
Anything you decide is deep within and hard to fix in your mind -is deep within and hard to fix in your mind !!!
The future of how you think does not depend on your experience.
It depends on how you think now -your beliefs and expectations of your reactions etc to things.
"I was scared of this - so I will be scared of this." go to the bottom of the class again...lol
When really you will find:
"I believed I was scared of this -so I was scared of this"
"Now - I have changed my mind about it"
I don't expect many to suddenly vanquish these fears by reading this paragraph !
But that's the mechanism as I see it.
You gotta believe you are the omnipotent monarch of your mind.
What you think now is the Law.
So watch out for making and reinforcing your beliefs by your past experience.
But it's all a belief anyway -the whole world is a belief in our minds.
But you don't have to believe that !
How to fix stuff in the mind -
So you got an issue maybe. You hate picnics and you want to like picnics !
Don't create something 'buried in the past' that you have to find to resolve this.
Don't create it as 'just the way it is' either -it isn't!
Don't, as I have said, look at all the hated picnics and conclude that you dislike picnics.
All is changeable.
You can love picnics if you want to...If you want to.
Everything you believe and think and ponder about is where? or when?
It's all here right now.
Any expectation that is manifesting is here right now and available to view.
Then just see the whole picnic hatred idea - have a look at it.
Close your eyes maybe.
..and breathe...see it as something you made up.
...and breathe and let it go...let it fade away... You made it -let it disperse.
Do this a few times maybe or in one hit -until all the concept you created has vanished.
But don't think about it - don't think "that's right flies are dirty and flies fly on the food and it isn't hygienic cos one person is eating and the germs in there mouth travel on flies and wasps go onto my food and i might get ill like my mother did oh dear she was sooo sick and the doctor said it could have been some germs on her food and you never know what you can pick up.and its soo uncomfortable sitting on the ground and with all the kids shouting and screaming..." STOPPPP
Just feel the whole concept. Feel the whole idea. For me there really aren't many thoughts when i do this...it's a feeling. ..and let it go.
It's a kind of magic -feeling an idea about the world you have made and letting it disperse.
Tips: How to 'fix' stuff in the mind.
Tip #1
Imagine your whole Identity -everything you are as a blank canvas.
On this canvas you have written or painted
I am sensitive
I am honest
I love my children
I hate my Uncle Pete the slimy creep!!...lol
I love chocolate -yummmy.
See everything you have created about yourself as -a creation by self.
It is up to you what that 'self' or 'blank canvas' is:
part of God,
a spiritual being ,
a human brain
or 'you don't really know but you are aware of being aware'.
But so long as... big yawn...you feel you are in complete control of your mind.
Now when you bump into an idea in the mind you don't want, it's just another thing you have made. It doesn't kind of mean anything - it's like emptying the cigarette buts out of an ashtray - some are yours, some are from your mother and you just don't care -out they go!!!
We are just throwing stuff overboard from a ship.
"A heavy box, worried about keys, a small box, nervous on trains, another box, worries about coffee, a large crate, the 'sister-thing', another crate,etc".
In fact you could do that mentally - throw stuff overboard from your mind that you don't like.Try it?
Tip#2
Beliefs and constructs like "I am very sorry -but this is true :("
Maybe you are ugly,or getting older,or cannot turn your bottom/bum/butt back 30 years!
How metaphysical do you want to go?
Theoretically one can do anything.
But beware of the sneaky things written on the blank canvas - somethings really are just a creation by the self.
Remember, something is "True" only because you believe it is true.
.....have a feel around for ALL the concepts your are holding on a subject...see tip3.
Tip#3
Emotions.
Some beliefs may flood you with emotions.
This is not a hypnotic suggestion-
Don't create emotions if they are not there or because I am not telling you they are there for you.
It is my belief that emotions carry a set of beliefs with them.
Is this yours?
When I am upset or fearful or bored or contented my outlook on the whole of my life can vary from "What's the point -nothing I do makes any difference" to "I am mighty -watch me create!!!"
Tip3 is to maintain an exterior point of view. Be your own counselor
"Wooo a whole load of grief and upset here -eeek - I am crying"
Be neutral.
Remember the blank canvas.
Remember these are just Things, Creations, like a painting.
For spiritual types be your Higher Self perhaps and look (down?) on the persona, the 'Paloma Porta' before you with love and compassion.
Tip#4
Don't 'chew' on things.
This may be a habit of yours -it may not be !!!
To chew on stuff seems to be a human occupation. One feels a set of unhappy thoughts and just wallows in the horribleness of the idea or concept one has created.
It all seems so true. It's happened before so it will happen again.
You just sit there looking at the whole miserable concept - what a shame people just don't do the next steps !!
.Stay neutral -remember the blank canvas.
.See the 'thing' as a self created thing (and thus 'true')
.See the past experience as solely created by the ..'thing'.
.Now we've got the whole miserable 'thing' in mind from the chewing over of it...
.and let gooooooo, stop flowing your power to it.
...Phewww :))
Tip#5
Try this on Everything and Everybody
Try changing a person using this method !!!
Imagine the whole other person is just a creation in your consciousness!!!
Uncle Pete - see him as a construct in yr mind - like a fear of... ping pong balls.
Then run Uncle Pete through the process above.
See what happens.
But again here ,especially, don't think about it - 'that's ridiculous' etc.
Forget all the 'real world' stuff.
Just run poor old Uncle Pete , the slime-ball belief you have of him through the method.
Like I have said in other articles ...the labels we put on people can have an astonishing affect.
Maybe Uncle Pete isn't a slime ball after all.
Maybe Uncle Pete is still reported as a slime ball -but weirdly after this -he isn't with you!!!

Tip#6
Don't think ...feeeeel
Don't go back to the mind to figure and understand all this
Mind generated understanding is the booby prise.
We are being The Divine, or Higher Self or consciousness or spirit or part of the brain (!) exterior to the mind.
Some call it the Watcher or the Witness.
I have labelled it as Neutral (in Tip#3) , as an umbrella term.
Just feel this.
And let the mental constructs go.
Tip#7
Don't think ..breathe
This seems to work.
Breathe into things - nice big breath in and slow breath out -whatever
Breathe - it seems to encourage feeling and diminish thinking.
Tip#8
Having let the old construct or idea of yourself go - dont' rush into creating yourself as the the most confident person ever or LOVING spiders.
Just relaxxxxx.
There's a thing called spiritual greed - just chill out - get enlightenment after lunch tomorrow -chilll.
If you purge some life changing beliefs you may find you're a bit of a different person.
Relax into any new horizons a little.
...
Stuff may happen that you cannot explain.
For us spiritual types this is an excellent sign !!!
Don't try to explain it with the physical world as defined by the english language.
Just smile :))
Conclusion
You gotta believe you are the Lord God Almighty of your mind.
There is no power but yourself that can control what goes in there.
Everything that comes out of your mind as thoughts,judgments,labels that you put on things , is all of your own creation.
